ORGANIZING
HistoricalUnions formed to protect workers from abuse. Many unions formed at a time and place where labour laws were
non-existent or minimal, and in favour of the employer. What's the point in becoming a
union member today?
What's the point in becoming a signatory contractor today? Today - The Big Picture"Globalization" is the big picture. The push is: Globalization means we're all on the same planet! The truth is:
Globalization means we're all competing for work at increasingly lower wages and increasingly unsafe conditions!
Are You Global? In the last decade, large employers have quietly (and sometimes no so quietly) moved jobs from North America to
countries where the workforce may not be as skilled and may not expect the same conditions as North American workers.
These companies can afford to hire major public relations firms to put a "positive spin" on the issue of skills.
These same companies save billions of dollars by offering work conditions that exceed the standard of the country
for the new workers, because these same conditions are unacceptable to North American workers. This is clearly unfair
to the North Americans who lose employment (followed by losing homes, skills and their families). This is also unfair
to the so-called "foreign" or "off-shore" workers, who are led to believe things have improved without understanding
how much better things could be. Are You Competitive? Is your company committed to best use of Canada's natural resources, including the Canadian workforce? Alberta (and
the Northwest Territories) hold many opportunities for companies over the next few decades. This in turn means many
opportunities for workers of all skill levels. Is your company looking expand in Canada? If not, why not? We offer more on benefits of union membership and
benefits of hiring union workers. Whether you are a worker or a
company executive, we encourage you to review these benefits and ask yourself serious questions about your
future in Canada.
