    1. Have current CSTS certification.
    2. Be registered as a "permit worker" with Local 110.
    3. Be dispatched to a job site through Local 110.
    4. Do a good job while at work.
    5. Register with the Alberta Apprenticeship Board to become an "indentured" apprentice (unless you are already a ticketed Journeyman Insulator).
    6. Get the membership application and ballot from your Job Steward.
    7. Have three Journeymen Insulators agree to sponsor you by signing your application.
    8. Obtain the required physical examination (unless you are already a ticketed Journeyman Insulator).
    9. Present both copies of the completed application and the ballot (be sure you signed and dated at the bottom) to the Dispatch Desk, at least one week before the next General Membership meeting.

  • How Do I Become a Member?

  • Journeyman Insulators vote on your application at General Membership meetings. These meetings are held on the second Saturday of most months (except July and August). If you are accepted as a member, you receive notice from the Union Hall explaining the next steps.

  • What If I am Not A Journeyman And Not an Indentured Apprentice?

  • Your application will not be voted on. You must be an indentured apprentice to apply for apprentice member status. Your apprentice status is confirmed by the Union Hall before putting your application to vote.

  • What If I Have Questions About the Membership Application?

  • You can talk to your Job Steward. You can ask Journeyman Insulators. You can call the Dispatch Desk if your questions cannot be answered by these people.

Non-Members

Permits

Non-members are known as "permit workers" because they sign a permit allowing Local 110 to find work for them. This permit costs $2.00 (the administration fee for processing) and is renewed every three months until the permit worker becomes a union member. This is because permit workers are expected to apply for and become union members within 90 days of first being dispatched by Local 110.

How Can I Become A Permit Worker?

  1. Have current CSTS certification.
  2. Complete the permit at the Union Hall. Bring your full address including postal code and phone number. If we cannot contact you, we cannot dispatch you for work.
  3. Sign the permit book at the Union Hall.
  4. Obtain the equipment list from the Hall.
  5. Have the required equipment ready.
  6. Check the Dispatch Information for available jobs.
  7. Call in to register interest in jobs for which you are eligible.
  8. Be ready to work when we call you back! Permit workers are notified of jobs after 10:30 A.M. normal business days.
